Longings from Our Favorite Christmas Movies: Longing to Believe

How can a rational person believe in God? Christmas time can increase both our cynicism about the world and our desire to believe something beyond the mundane. In fact, we are encouraged to suspend our disbeliefs to make the season more fun. Is the call to believe in Christianity like that? Does Christian faith require us to turn off our brain and leap into make-believe? The coming of Christ calls us to a different sort of faith that requires more than just a change in beliefs.  It is not an irrational leap, but a basic trust in the One we have every reason to trust.  

Our Advent Series this year will explore longings in popular Christmas movies that echo the human longings that Christ came to fulfill. Each week we will pair a movie with a Bible passage that speaks of the significance of Christ’s coming.
