Takeaway: Messages around Christmas time constantly encourage us to be joyful. The reasons we are given, however, are pretty flimsy. We are just supposed to be joyful, at least until we put the decorations away. Or, we think joy can only come when life is going well for us. Christians can feel obligated to appear joyful, even as they secretly struggle with cynicism and despair. It would be a mistake to deny this longing for joy, but our joy must become from the right source. The more we, like Mary, magnify God, the more our hearts will be captured by this infectious joy. you lost purpose?
