Takeaway: God’s purposes seem strange: Why are tyrants left in power? Why doesn’t God immediately judge evil? How can God choose some for glory and harden the hearts of others? In Romans 9, Paul explains that these questions arise only because of God’s merciful plan of redemption. Out of context, this passage will produce in us bitterness and frustration with God. Rightly understood, however, this passage will produce humility, gratitude, and hopefulness. What most often prevents you from seeing God’s mercy in your life? How does this passage bring hope for those who seem far from Christ?
