Stairway from Heaven
Passage: Genesis 28:10-22
Takeaway: Is our Christianity too secular? We hold the right truths, we try to behave the right way, we perform the right religious activities, but we live as if Christianity were a human activity. In our passage, God comes to Jacob when Jacob is completely unaware of his presence. God appears not because Jacob is climbing a ladder to God, but because God has graciously descended to be present with Jacob. Grace brings God’s presence in spite of ourselves. Does our faith include such constant interaction between heaven and earth as found in Gen. 28 that we expect him to be present?
